Chronic Prostatitis is a common disease among middle-aged and elderly men. Inflected/inflamed rate is greater than 60%. Many patients have recurring episodes of prostate problems. Symptoms vary greatly. Patients with mild cases feel fatigue and weak, pain and weak in the lower back and knees. Occasionally find pus in the urine. Urine is not clear. Patients often seek medical help for sexual dysfunction such as premature ejaculation and impotence. In serious cases, patients experience swelling and pain in their low abdominal region and testis. Long time sufferers have fiberous scar in prostatic tissue, the urge to urinate frequently, the sensation of incomplete emptying, and a weak and thinner urine stream. An accurate diagnosis of prostatitis can be achieved by a doctor based on examining the results of diagnostic tests and a digital rectal exam.

The so-called prostate is a collection of tiny glands. It is a secondary sex gland for men which consists of glandular cells and prostatic ducts. These prostatic ducts and urethra are intimately connected. The prostatic ducts open into the urethra. The tube that carries urine is also responsible for transporting semen. Thus, prostate problems directly affect the abnormality of urinating and semen ejaculation. In addition, bacteria in urethra can easily work their way into the glands and infect them. The orgasm with ejaculation aggravates the illness of a prostate in trouble.

Western physicians classify prostatitis into bacterial prostatitis and non-bacterial prostatitis. The latter is the most common prostatitis. Treatment using antibiotics often does not work. Chinese medicine recognizes :

1. Excessive and prolong use of brain, together with stress lead to “Liver Qi” stagnation which induces prostate problems.

2. Masturbation, long history of retrograde ejaculation, or abnormal practice of sexual intercourse, such as stopping intercourse in time to avoid ejaculation, or a lifestyle which involves prolonged sitting affect the blood circulation around perineum (Hui-Yin) area. This causes blood to pool in the prostate for a long period of time and induces prostate problems.

3. Eating spicy food in ordinary life leads to “Damp Heat” accumulation in the “Lower Jiao” and induces prostate problems.
