![]() Male sterility refers to cases in which married couples that are at child-bearing age who have lived together for more than two years and who have not used any contraceptive methods.
The woman has been tested with normal results in all examinations, but because of male biological functions or of an anatomical or functional defect of the male reproductive system or other reasons, the woman is not getting pregnant. The cause of male sterility is multifacited. A single obstacle that occurs in any one of the systems that affect the production and transport of spermatozoa and the eventual union and fusion of the egg can cause sterility. Chinese medicine believes that the disorder male sterility is related to organ-meridian system that is weak such as the kidneys, liver, heart, and spleen. The main culprits include:![]() 1. Strenuous thinking or excessive workload in daily life causes the kidneys' Ch'i circulation to become thin and weak, and it causes the adrenal glands, which are part of the kidney organ-meridian system and which produce hormones that regulate the production of the gonads, to make weak seminal fluid. When the kidney organ-meridian system is weak, the vitality of sperm production is compromised, giving sperms that are weak and few in number and causing male sterility. ![]() 2. Emotional hyperactivity in daily life causes the livers Ch'i to become stagnant. Long term blockage in the liver organ-meridian system results in frustration, anger and perhaps violent rage. When the wood element of the liver is being burnt high, it depletes and exhausts the water element of the kidneys. The liver also controls the sinews, which play a major role in sensing and controlling muscular tension. When liver Ch'i is stagnant, all sinews are restrained and tense, thus constraining passages of the network of ducts in the testis and causing sterility. ![]() 3. Consumption of food and drink that are extreme in flavor and addiction to cigarettes and alcohol cause excessive heat energy to go down the body. Dead sperms and blood clot block reproductive ducts. When these ducts are obstructed and not free flowing, either semen would not form at all, or it would become too hot in constitution, or too thick, or such obstruction would prevent ejaculation. Result? Sterility. Western medicine on the other hand relates sterility mainly to sperm production. Usually analysis of seminal fluid in terms of quality and quantity of sperms is conducted. Among the criteria analyzed are the following: A. sperm count or sperm concentration in a given volume, B. motility of the sperms, and C. vitality of the sperm (morphology, liquefaction, autoagglutination etc.,). Common explanations for the analyses include: ![]() 4. Infection or inflammation in male reproductive structures and/or the accessory sex glands. For example, prostatitis or inflammation of the prostate gland, infection of the testicles and epididymis are some of the more common disorders. In such cases, semen analysis reveals no sperms, or immobile sperms, and above average white blood cell count, which are present to fight the infections. ![]() 5. Enlargement of of epidiymis and ductus (vas) deferens. Functionally, the epididymis is the site of sperm maturation. Enlarged ducts raise the temperature inside testes, and high temperature damages the pseudostratified columnar epithelium cells and the branching surface mircovilli called stereocilia of the epididymis . Consequently, sperm formation is affected. ![]() 6. Disorders related to glandular secretion. These disorders lead to imbalance or irregularity of male reproductive hormone secretion. Bay Area renowned sexual dysfunction specialist Dr. Ping Xiao Adams, having compiled years of experience, uses unique herbal prescriptions and treatment. She has cured countless patients suffering from sterility, including those with low semen volume, semen with weak consitituion, cold constitution, hot constitution, one that is too thin or too thick, impotence, inability to ejaculate, and low sperm count. Many patients, before going through Dr. Xiao's treatment, had received semen analysis and testicular incusion examination that indicated few or no sperm present in the semen.
